Foundations of a Prosperous Soul

Our soul is our mind, emotions and will. God desire is that we prosper in the soul. That we have clear controlled thinking. Our emotions are governed by peace and joy. Our will is energised and focused.

There are many things that can bring us joy, good things. I believe if the foundations right, those things are enhanced. Our foundations have to be things that don’t change. While we are building the foundations of out lives, we need to build with things that don’t change.

Jesus said to build your life upon the Rock. The rock doesn’t shift and change, sand is easily moved.

Good things bring us joy, but can be changeable. They are there to be enjoyed, but we can’t build our life on them.

Relationships are a focus of our life. Family, friends, no matter how good they are they can change. Having our foundations right will enhance those relationships, strengthen them and in fact make them more stable.

Changeable things will lead us to have the stability of our life changeable.

Having a prosperous soul enhances all these things, makes them greater, more enjoyable. Leads us to enjoy life and all the good things more.

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth.

3 John verses 2-3 says:

A stand out feature of the receiver of this letter form John is that he firstly had a prosperous soul and secondly that he walked in the truth.

What does it mean to walk in the truth. Now we know that to be the word. But that can too vague. John wrote in his gospel that Jesus was full of grace and truth, in fact that grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. Jesus said I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. The truth is Jesus, Jesus and His reality is what the truth is.

Jesus called Holy Spirit the Spirit of truth. So I think it’s important to look at what He is saying to us and we’ll find the truth we need to build the foundations of our soul on.

Our first unchangeable foundation.

Holy Spirit pours out Gods extravagant love.

Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Romans 5:5

Hope has a hold of our hearts because of God’s great love. The first foundation to set in order is to be emerged, saturated and consumed by Gods love.

How do we become filled with God’s love?

1. Ask

That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Ephesians 3:17-19

Holy Spirit is always wanting to pour out the love of God into our hearts and in knowledge so that we will be filled with the fullness of God.

2. Look at the demonstration

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8

Looking at Jesus display the redemptive love of God on the cross will alive our thinking with the extravagance of Gods love and kindness towards us.

It’s unchangeable, nothing can take us out of God’s love.

Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:37-39

3. Second unchangeable foundation

Holy Spirit testifies of our righteousness in Jesus

Jesus speaking of when the Holy Spirit would come said He would testify to us of righteousness. Now we know that means He testifies of our righteousness in Christ. You can find a message about that in the word Wednesday. Paul puts it this way;

And be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;

Philippians 3:9

Seeing ourselves before God in Jesus brings rest. The reason it brings rest is like the first one its unchangeableness. Jesus forever is standing before God for us, as us. Our righteousness in Him will remain forever. Our identity is set in Him.

And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Galatians 4:6-7

4. Third Unchangeable foundation

Prayer

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

The reason I’ve said that prayer is unchangeable, obviously our prayer changes. But His ability to hear us never changes.

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

1 John 5:14-15

Conclusion

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.

3 John 2

God wants you healthy, God wants you prosperous, God wants your soul to prosper. We can know for certain that these are “according to His will”. Let’s put into practice the unchangeable foundations and I believe we will grow more and more everyday in our should ability to prosper in and out of the changeableness of life.
